Dear STEM Educator:
I am the local coordinator for the non-profit CSC Charitable Foundation, associated with the CSC corporation, a global IT company headquartered here in Tysons Corner, Virginia.
The CSC Charitable Foundation is hosting a computer programming contest for teams of students age 10 to 14. Details are available on our website, http://www.csc.com/csccodes
I know you’re busy, so I’ll brief:
We’re encouraging local schools, scout troops, STEM groups, etc. here in northern Virginia to promote this contest among your students.
Each team that enters the contest will be asked to write a program using MIT’s Scratch system: https://scratch.mit.edu
Each team should consist of 3 students, age 10-14.
Of course there can be multiple teams from a single troop or school.
Teams can register for the contest starting now. The contest rules will be published on January 9.
Each region (of which northern Virginia is one) will be awarding 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for the region. The prizes will be STEM oriented (telescopes, chemistry sets, etc.) but are still being finalized. The prizes will be awarded at a ceremony here in Tysons Corner in early March. Winners will also advance to compete globally for the top prize against other regional winners.
All that’s being asked is that you socialize this contest within your group to see if there’s any interest. The details of the contest are provided on our website, above, and of course you’re more than welcome to reach out to me if you have any questions or comments.
Thank you for your time, and for your ongoing contributions to our NoVA communities!
