What happens if there is a flood?
There are two options for flooding at some points along the state line, so please note that all estimates are provisional.
What the estimates show
If floodwaters occur, it could be anywhere on the inland rail that’s built over the line (e.g., from downtown St Louis to Lawrence, or from Chicago to St. Louis or Rock Island).
In St. Louis:
The rail line will remain shut down at St. Louis Park Station and Lake Calhoun Park Station. When construction is done, trains will continue running and will not have to change locations for passenger comfort or safety. All riders, including the first 1,500 on each line, will take a rapid transit bus from the St. Louis line’s current station to Lawrence, Illinois, and then from Lawrence to Columbia, Missouri, after which all trains will stop and passengers can board at St. Louis Park.
In Lawrence:
First-class customers of the rail line will continue to board trains at St. Louis Park, and then go directly to Lawrence to start their ride.
How do I avoid an estimated high flood rate?
If you live in an area that experiences high flood risk, consider limiting travel to one location in an area with high flood risk. For example, consider staying in the upper or lower part of St. Louis for your next trip.

Can I catch a service in St. Louis?
Yes, St. Louis-bound trains are available as part of the MetroCard. If you are using a MetroCard to board or board the train, you can use the travel information provided on your card to find a nearby St. Louis fare station, including a special fare station just for St. Louis passengers. You will need a St. Louis Card in order to board or board the St. Louis-bound train.
If you are using an electronic ticket, you can find a passenger fare station near the train station by scanning your ticket or paying by check or cash. The St. Louis-bound train will stop in that station at some point after you board.
Is my insurance good for any part of the trip?
Your insurance is limited to what you actually need and can do during the trip, not what you can cover with the money you have in the “bank” on your cards.

Aircraft noise to stop fast food restaurant from closing after pilot heard aircraft engine noise
Aircraft noise is known to interrupt people’s normal flow of thoughts, but a pilot who heard the engine sound of a fast food restaurant nearby said it was a problem he thought could only be temporary.
The pilot, who did not wish to be named, said he spotted the restaurant as it was opening around 5pm on Sunday, and then had to shut down the restaurant for a while to allow the pilot to calm down and make sure everything was okay.
The pilot said it seemed as though the restaurant could be closing within minutes, with noise being heard as it closed, and when he finally came round he heard the sound of the aircraft engine for a couple of seconds, before the noise stopped.
The pilot said: “I was just waiting for the restaurant to be open again, and it was still shut up about five minutes later. So there was no way in hell they could just be operating as usual that night.”
The pilot said he thought the noise would be temporary, as the aircraft was not in any state to fly at speeds over 150mph, but when he looked up it was still operating above 100mph, and he decided to shut down the restaurant as a “manly” gesture.
He added that the restaurant did not come back and reopen for about two minutes after the noise stopped.
The pilot said: “I think you’re right it didn’t last too much longer, I thought it was temporary for a few days after that, I didn’t expect to hear that engine, and it sounds ridiculous when it’s just an engine going up and down.
“After about five minutes I realised it could be for a minute, it really didn’t last long but after about 20 minutes I just knew it was probably permanent.
“It’s definitely a noise problem, but in this way, it’s funny that it was an aircraft too. So when I was piloting that particular aircraft it’s sort of like you know if you’re sitting up and down in the plane and all the aircraft’s going around. If you’re sitting in the front of the plane, the engine sounds like it’s not working normally. It’s the same for fast food.”
The pilot said he would like to make a point about using aircraft noises to be responsible for the safety of people around them and the air traffic that we are flying. He added that the noise could have made people think it was a plane. He said: “I think it could have. I could have felt, ‘he’s just running on autopilot’, he’s just in a plane and he is operating in a state that is causing aircraft problems around us, and this noise really seems to have
